I think you are looking at the wrong package then.

Package: gnome-core
Description: The GNOME Desktop Environment -- essential components

Package: gnome-desktop-environment
Description: The GNOME Desktop Environment

Package: gnome
Description: The GNOME Desktop Environment, with extra components

I don’t know what problem you are trying to solve but obviously you’re
