Bug#594245: gnome-terminal cpu usage

I'm chiming in to confirm that I'm experiencing the same high cpu usage issue 
with gnome-terminal and that it's a recent regression (since about the start of 
september 2010 -- maybe a week before that).

I also get high CPU usage with other libvte terminals -- roxterm and 
xfce4-terminal -- although  xfce-terminal is not as high. 


Misc notes:

- The issue is only present when I use pseudo transparency
- on my single-core CPU, when I run top in gnome-terminal, it reports that Xorg 
is using about 15% CPU and gnome-terminal is using 5%. When I run top in some 
non-libvte terminal (mrxvt and others) with pseudo transparency, the CPU usage 
is almost zero
- in xfce4-terminal, I'm getting ~7% CPU xorg and 3% xfce4-terminal CPU usage 
(using pseudo transparency).

I'm posting this here because I'm not sure where this report should live. It's 
likely a libvte issue, but maybe it's lower in the stack (cairo? gtk?)

I'm using the "intel" video driver in xorg. My graphics chipset:
