Package: vte
Severity: wishlist

The long descriptions of the binary packages built from vte read:
The VTE library inserts terminal capability strings into a trie, and then
uses it to determine if data received from a pseudo-terminal is a control
sequence or just random data. The sample program "interpret" illustrates
more or less what the widget sees after it filters incoming data.
I fail to see how this implementation detail illustrates the purpose of
the VTE library which, as I see it, is to provide a terminal widget for
GTK applications needing it. Why not replace the above with something
like this, slightly paraphrasing the upstream development docs:
The VTE library provides a terminal emulator widget VteTerminal for
applications using the GTK+ 2.0 toolkit. It also provides the VtePTY
object containing functions for starting a new process on a new
pseudo-terminal and for manipulating pseudo-terminals.
Best,
Teemu
