Bug#623932: video output completely garbled

I'm following unstable on my laptop. Since a few days (10-14, IIRC) the video
output in totem is completely garbled, see attached screenshot. During
playbacks, those bars move and change color, accordingly to the proper ongoing
scene. The audio works fine, but totem is essentially useless for video
playback.

Given its changelog, totem itself is probably not the culprit, but I've failed
to pinpoint the bug to a specific dependency of his. At startup in a console,
totem spits out the following warnings:

  $ totem foo.avi 

  ** (totem:28420): WARNING **: Could not create element 'gconfaudiosink'

  ** (totem:28420): WARNING **: Could not create element 'gconfvideosink'

I don't know what to make out of them, but given audio is working fine I doubt
they are related to the bug (and I cannot exclude those warnings were not there
before the bug has started manifesting itself either).

I can reproduce the bug with any kind of videos I've tried, which are mostly
AVI-wrapped MPEG-1 Layer 3 videos, as well as with Flash videos downloaded
using youtube-dl. As a matter of fact, I can't find any video with which totem
is working ATM.

On the other hand, all other video players I've installed and tried still work
properly on the very same video. The list of those video players goes as
follow: vlc, (g)xine, (g)mplayer, banshee.
