Bug#636874: KDE applications affected too

Hi folks,

This problem seems to be even more general. I use KDE and I have it as well. 
It started a couple of days ago (maybe in November). At some point some 
letters e.g. "d" and "s" are gone. Then, if I switch desktops or turn of and 
on the desktop effects, they come back again. A couple of minutes later, other 
characters are affected.
Xorg.0.log does not show any complaints.
My graphics card is a Radeon 9200SE.
