Bug#632873: Downgraded to 2.30.2-1 and no problem with keyboard input

sudo aptitude install gnome-terminal/stable gnome-terminal-data/stable
The following packages will be DOWNGRADED:
  gnome-terminal gnome-terminal-data 
The following packages will be REMOVED:
  libvte-2.90-9{u}

So, something rotten in one of those three packages.
