The Python plugins are now in /usr/share/gedit (as the warning says).
Therefore that’s the directory you need to pass to dh_pysupport.

Maybe add auto-wrapping code to debian/desktop2description.awk to avoid
that.

As I said it’s unrelated to your changes; this should be in gedit
itself.
