I had gnome-session set up with awesome as the WM (through gconf) and
I deactivated gnome-panel has an activated component. Both settings
were not obeyed by gnome-session-fallback/gnome3.
I sort of understand that this is a corner case for the GNOME
maintainers, but awesome is much more useful with gnome-session in the
background than when using the plain awesome session from gdm. But I
guess you'd see that as a bug in awesome.
