Package: libgconf2-4
Version: 3.2.3-1
Severity: important
Dear Maintainer,
the upgrade from gconf 2.32.4-1 to 3.2.3-1 broke the support for
GCONF_DEFAULT_SOURCE_PATH. The latter had been introduced to allow tools
like jhbuild to tell GConf about additional places to search for
defaults and settings. Without this support Sugar [1] won't work inside
sugar-jhbuild [2] as no defaults are set.
This is partially due to an upstream bug (Gnome#664031 [3]) and
partially because Debian explicitly configures GConf to use the new
DBus backend (which lacks GCONF_DEFAULT_SOURCE_PATH support) instead
of the default ORBit backend (which supports GCONF_DEFAULT_SOURCE_PATH).
Invocation on a system that still has gconf 2.32.4-1:
sascha.silbe at mimosa:~$ ~/sugar-jhbuild/sugar-jhbuild run gconftool-2 --get /desktop/sugar/desktop/favorites_layout
ring-layout
sascha.silbe at mimosa:~$
Invocation on a system with gconf updated to 3.2.3-1:
(wheezy-jhbuild)sascha.silbe at twin:~$ ~/sugar-jhbuild/sugar-jhbuild run gconftool-2 --get /desktop/sugar/desktop/favorites_layout
No value set for `/desktop/sugar/desktop/favorites_layout'
