Bug#648864: evince now says "File type PNG image (image/png) is not supported"

Package: evince
Version: 3.2.1-1
Severity: normal
evince used to display jpegs and pngs (quite nicely, too). Some time
recently (in the last few months, since either 3.0 or 3.2 i think) it
stopped being able to. Now, when i launch "evince some-image.png", it
gives me an error bar with
Unable to open document
File type PNG image (image/png) is not supported
and for a jpeg:
Unable to open document
File type JPEG image (image/jpeg) is not supported
Can this functionality be restored? It makes it a more generally
functional "document viewer".
thanks for maintaining evince in debian!
