Hi,
Is this the same problem as described in
http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=645506#22 ?
If so, check if the gnome-session package is installed.
I had a similar problem and only solved it when I noticed that this
package was missing. All the other g-s packages (-bin, -common,
-fallback) were installed so I'm not sure if this is a problem with
dependencies or just PEBCAK.
