A did the followung test to gather some useful information:

luca at taori:~$ ps -ef | grep gnome-shell
luca      2588  2463 55 19:36 ?        00:06:13 /usr/bin/gnome-shell

luca at taori:~$ strace -p 2588 &> strace.txt

luca at taori:~$ lsof -p 2588 &> lsof.txt


The files strace.txt and lsof.txt are in attachment.
