   * What led up to the situation?

I updated gnome to 3.4 in wheezy and sid.

   * What exactly did you do (or not do) that was effective (or
     ineffective)?

I pressed Alt-F2, then entered: google.com. It failed. Then, www.google.com,
failed. Then http://www.google.com, works. But not convinient at all. It
worked on Gnome 2.22.

   * What was the outcome of this action?

The 2 1st attemqss failed. 

   * What outcome did you expect instead?

I waited for some web browser to run.
