Package: gmime2.4
Severity: wishlist
Subject: experimental debian packaging for gmime2.6

i've just built a gmime2.6 package for debian which diverges very little
From the gmime2.4 packaging (just the necessary changes and a few
trivial fixups). I suspect we could clean up the packaging further, but
for now i wanted to get this out there.

The attached debian.tar.gz should build fine against the 2.6.4 tarball
From http://download.gnome.org/sources/gmime.

I'm also publishing a git repo of this packaging work (based originally
off the pkg-gnome svn) at:

 git://lair.fifthhorseman.net/~dkg/gmime

I'd be happy to see a version of gmime2.6 appear in debian experimental
soon, so that debian developers working on notmuch can build that
package cleanly against the new library.

I don't know about transitioning gmime2.6 into unstable, but i'd
certainly be interested in hearing any thoughts about what that
transition might look like.

Followup on that transition possibility should maybe go to the debian
BTS, when this is submission is assigned a bug number.
