There is a general problem of UI consistency if we slip in a GTK2
application in the core desktop.

For example, with the default theme in GNOME 3, focus change is very
discreet, except for the fact that all widgets change color in unfocused
windows.  But this only works for GTK3 applications, so you’ll get the
wrong impression that the GTK2 window has focus.

In many other ways the Adwaita GTK2 theme is not entirely consistent
with the GTK3 one - although some progress has been made in 3.4.

These applications are not integrated with the shell global menu either,
which means a large place on the screen is lost.

There is also the problem of GNOME keyring integration; not having it
would be quite the security regression.  This is a big point in favor of
chromium instead of iceweasel.
