Dear Maintainer,
I have a locally reproducable crash of gnome shell. It happens when I
start an ediff in my Emacs 24 setup. This spawns a small window. At
this point, gnome-shell crashes with the following error:
Window manager warning: Log level 16: Native children wider or taller than 65535 pixels are not supported
Window manager warning: Log level 16: The program 'gnome-shell' received an X Window System error.
This probably reflects a bug in the program.
The error was 'BadAlloc (insufficient resources for operation)'.
(Details: serial 10715 error_code 11 request_code 12 minor_code 0)
(Note to programmers: normally, X errors are reported asynchronously;
that is, you will receive the error a while after causing it.
To debug your program, run it with the GDK_SYNCHRONIZE environment
variable to change this behavior. You can then get a meaningful
backtrace from your debugger if you break on the gdk_x_error() function.)
I was unable to reproduce this using emacs -Q, so I don't know if you
(the maintainers) will be able to trigger this problem. I will keep
my system in a state where I can reliably trigger it, and if you can
think of any information I can send your way to help diagnose this
problem, please let me know.
In case it is important, my emacs is locally built, with the lucid
toolkit rather than the gtk toolkit.
