1st workspace: pidgin (contact list + 1 window with several tabs) and
workrave (set to only show in that desktop)
2nd wrokspace: icedove (maximized)
3rd workspace: terminator (maximized)
4th workspace: LibreOffice Calc (maximized)
5th workspace: Emma (not maximized)
6th workspace: chromium (maximized)

All applications installed directly from testing repositories

* I deactivated all installed extensions and still happens
* I tried different permutations of the above and the results are
always the same the second workspace is kept intact, all the rest are
moved to the 1st one.

Find attached before/after screenshots of the 1st desktop showing what happens.

I'll be more than happy to assist with further debugging - gdb traces
or whatnot - but I have no idea where to start.

Matías
