Bug#673049: gnome-panel: Workspace switcher applet: single colour, no workspaces visible

I have made a screenshot to show the "problem". It is attached.

The screenshot shows in the rightmost corner (the shell icon) the
application switcher and next to it the desktop switcher with 4
desktops. 2 desktops are in use. on the leftmost desktop 2 windows
were open (square corner eaten out of the iceweasel icon) and on the
one next to it one window.

As can be seen, this is somewhat unclear. No difference in colour (the
background of my desktop is blue like) between the panel bar and
desktops can be seen, thus one has to know that there are 2 more
desktops to switch to. The icon backgrounds are somehow ugly black,
which I don't care too much about but there is no line around the
window representation so it can be unclear how windows are arranged on
the workspace switcher.

I hope this makes the oddity more clear...
