Bug#690338: Don't use double forking when launching applications since it breaks pkexec

Double forking when launching applications breaks .desktop files using
Exec=pkexec /usr/bin/foo
as can be seen in [1]. GNOME Shell has been fixed in the mean time, and
there is a patch at [2] for gnome-panel which we should consider
cherry-picking.
