Don, in your option 4B, I wonder if it would be a good idea to  have the
depend be something like g-n-m|wicd|no-network-manager

ANd have an empty extra package that users can install if they really
want neither n-m or wicd?

While I don't get a vote, I think that would be a reasonable option if
you buy the idea that you want to install n-m for people who uninstalled
it for squeeze, but you still want a way for people to say "no I hate
n-m".

I think 4A is a better option, bum my proposal may help the question of
whether the TC missed another case where n-m is the wrong answer.
