Ok, sorry about that.  The original description was actually quite unclear.

Anyway, can you get your system into a "pure" unstable (or testing)
state, and retest?  Also, have you changed gnome config files in
anyway that deviates from the default settings?  Is there anything
else on your system that may be non-standard?
