Thanks for this suggestion.  As noted in the bug, I checked the
settings using the CLI tool `gsettings'.  The GUI control panel
doesn't expose access to those settings.

Another reason I brought this to debian-devel is that there has been
debate about lid closing/suspend in the Gnome community and their
policy change in Gnome 3 appears to first hit Debian users with wheezy.

Looking at the system, I found /var/log/pm-suspend.log and I notice it
logs activity at 9:40 am yesterday (laptop woken from suspend)

It doesn't log anything in the evening at the time it overheated - the
next log entry is at 9:25am today when it went into suspend again.  So
it appears it didn't even try to suspend when the lid closed last
night and overheated (Mar 27 19:20):
