Bug#707224: gedit: default preferences mean a privacy risk

The default setting of the preference "make a backup before saving" (don't know exactly, using german version) is a privacy risk, because the backups are hidden files.
Example: I create a note text file including my bank account data on an usb stick and before giving the stick away, I want to delete all files not meant to be read by a stranger. So I delete private.txt but won't see private.txt~ which could include my private data before last save.
Solution is obvious.
