This is the reply I got from upstream :-

- revert upstream changes to use a rgba desktop view, until the other
components are ready for that change, see lp #1159430 for details "

I saw the bug https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu-gnome/+bug/1159430 .
I have no idea if that is good or bad fix or what needs to be done.
Looking to you and other Debian-GNOME team members to take a call and
do what you think is good for us.
