any progress with shifting svn to git ?

Hi all,
There were some conversations during the time alioth was down of
moving from subversion to git. One of the reasons perhaps is due to
its decentralized nature itself. Whereas subversion needs some place
for the authoritative repo. and not easy to move around, while in git
moving from say github to gitorious or some other git platform . Also
almost everything in git is quite a bit cheaper (bandwidth saver a
bit) than say subversion.

I know Laurant Bigonville (bigon) is working on that, Any word on that
would be nice.
