Bug#726250: glade: Will not open .glade files, but UI dialogues imply support

Package: glade
Version: 3.14.2-3
Severity: normal
The File->Open dialogue file selector has the options:
All Files
Libglade Files
GtkBuilder Files
All Glade Files
With either "Libglade Files" or "All Glade Files" selected, it's
possible to select a ".glade" file and click Open. However,
opening the UI fails with the error
(glade:13180): GladeUI-WARNING **: Couldnt recognize GtkBuilder xml, skipping /path/to/file.glade
Not being able to edit .glade files with this package (or any other
package in the archive is a regression, and it would be nice to have
this addressed either in this package, or via a compatibility package.
For the stuff I'm working on, a GTK+-3.0 port is currently out of the
question, and even if it were, it's not possible to upgrade with the
tools currently available.
Regards,
Roger
