This might have been caused by changes made for GNOME #630217, which were
reverted in 3.11.7 (e.g. GNOME #724067 has a similar backtrace/symptoms and
is marked fixed). Please try with Gtk 3.12, which is now in unstable.

I think that message might be misleading here: an X disconnect is one of the
reasons why emacs might receive an X error, but not the only one.
In this case I think it's getting an unrelated X error, because it's
trying to use a visual that doesn't match the one Gtk is using.
