sure, but removing that line wouldn't prevent it from being shown in
gnome, it just would make it visible everywhere. at least right now i
think it wouldn't be shown in KDE, for example. :)
fwiw, that line was added in 5.06-1 (2008-07-22) to fix a lintian
warning, if Tormod Volden's debian/changelog is to be believed.
and all of the .desktop files for the hacks appear to be in the debian
packaging, and not in upstream (upstream only ships
./driver/screensaver-properties.desktop.in).
the .desktop files appear to be shipped specifically for the benefit of
gnome-screensaver, though: they were introduced to resolve

So if someone from the GNOME team can determine that these are no longer
needed, maybe we can just drop them entirely to resolve this issue?
I hope that someone who understands any of the packages involved in this
little intersection better than i do can make a decision about what
needs to happen here, and reassign this bug if appropriate to the right
package.
