Uh... what do you mean by upstream, here ? AFAIU, the pointer above refers to something that may well be specific to ubuntu... and given that they use unity, etc. I doubt this applies to Debian the same way.

Can you be more specific on what you did and who responded what ?

AFAIU, Emilio Pozuelo Monfort provided enough details on the problem and we should require some dedicated component for handling the background...
