Handled, but with a black background, since, in the meantime, nautilus also dropped the background rendering.

So, AFAIU, if we want to have the option to change the color of the background or to set images there, either nautilus should be (optionally) able to handle the background images again (see #730366), or gnome-settings-daemon should get it back (AFAIU, reading http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=729846#19), or another tool should do the job.
