Not to be taken as "KDE team" reply, but here's my opinion.

That's right. So in my opinion we should simply kill the Debian menu system
and let other environments implement the FreeDesktop one. The Debian menu
system did serve it's purpose, now there is a much wider standard, so let's
avoid wasting our time patching the holes on those who did not yet implemented
it.
So yes, I'm taken here a more aggressive standpoint that Sune took in his
first mail.
