I started noticing perhaps a couple of months ago that Mozilla file selections dialogs were partially broken. After investigating a little, this appears to affect all GTK+-based applications (tested Iceweasel, Icedove, lshw-gtk and Synaptic).

I noticed this because directories were showing like regular files. In fact, any file is shown like a generic file (a sheet of paper). Installing gnome-icon-theme fixes this. Seeing the dialog properly working, I noticed that several other icons were also missing. In both cases, hicolor-icon-theme is installed.

lshw-gtk is based on GTK+ 2, so this seems to affect version 2 too. I am not entirely sure that the bug is in GTK, but something's wrong for sure. I only tested with KDE.
