Bug#731458: alacarte: New items always placed in "other" category with no icon

Dear Maintainer,

I had this same issue, it was only when I was reporting this that I discovered
they were in the other section, and not just invisible in alacarte. Sometimes
they do have an icon, sometimes they don't. Jpegs and .jpg show where .png's
dont always.
