gnome-system-log is suffering from severe bit-rot. I've tried to
rescue it from the worst fails I could see, but I'm not interested
in spending more time on it.
AFAIK gnome-logs is not a full replacement as it only reads from the
journal (and is a much better application from doing so).
IIRC gnome-system-log was still an official part of gnome core
(upstream) last I looked. We should probably have this discussion
together with upstream who probably also wants to drop gnome-system-log
from the official set.
I would personally recommend dropping gnome-system-log, but I'm not
going to touch this for reasons you might be able to guess.
By the way, someone should apply
https://git.gnome.org/browse/gnome-logs/commit/?h=gnome-3-14&id=5b9c09aa12caa5fadd2fb0c54bfaa449f1e5791f
so that gnome-logs is actually launchable via the desktop file.

will find it without a copy in my inbox is gambling.
