Have you selected the option to display file icons on your desktop
background, perhaps in GNOME Tweak Tool or via dconf-editor?

If you have, then this is probably a duplicate of
https://bugs.debian.org/766021 which has already been fixed in unstable,
and should migrate to testing next week.
