Bug#763886: eog: Could the dependency on gnome-icon-theme be relaxed?

Package: eog
Depends: 3.12.2-1
Severity: wishlist
I'm using this package on Xfce and it has an installed size of 8644 K,
but since 2007 it depends on gnome-icon-theme, which means an
additional 10715 K, plus the size of the cache files, which may be
really huge (see Bug #763881, I hope that this is indeed a bug but I'm
not sure that it is).
Considered only as a file viewer, eog works well enough without
gnome-icon-theme, so my first suggestion would be to change the
current Depends to a Recommends.
The only problem is that it is quite ugly as a "file manager".
(Look at snapshot1.png and snapshot2.png to see the difference).
Another idea would be to change the Depends line to something like this:
Depends: gnome-icon-theme | minimal-icon-package
where minimal-icon-package would be a package prividing a minimal set
of icons making eog to work ok as a file manager (in a way that the
user at least knows where to click with the mouse(.
Thanks.
