Bug#765835: gnome-panel: Unreadable Dark grey text on black background & other theme issues

Please see the attached screenshot. This is in a freshly created
home directory. The issues are:

* Some text is dark grey on black
* Some parts have a light grey background
* The show desktop icon in the bottom left location is broken
* There is a light grey border at the bottom of the screen
