I just tried, by doing:
# apt install {gir1.2-clutter-1.0,libclutter-1.0-0:amd64,libclutter-1.0-common}=1.20.0-1
# systemctl restart gdm3
and then tried logging back in via gdm using GNOME on wayland, and yes, it works
now.
Thanks for the pointers, Emilio. Any next steps for debugging?
