python-gtop whereabouts

Dear maintainers,

as a Debian user and developer/maintainer of libgtop2, I am wondering how
can I get the python bindings for libgtop2.
Yep, the one that I wrote, not the gir one that I am fixing.
It used to be shipped within package python-gtop or source package
gnome-python-desktop IIRC.
But now, I can't find it anymore in unstable but I can see that gdesklets
ships its own gtop.so and I know that there are probably no more
application depending on it.
gnome-python-desktop source package actually still ships the source C file
but does not build it.

Could you please point me to the emails/etc that notified about that
removal from debian ?
What would be the process to have gnome-python-desktop actually build it ?

Thank you.
