So this bug is squashed!

Something is really not right here: even if the selected locale
en_GB.utf8 doesn't work on your system, LC_ALL=C is not something that
should ever fail.

gnome-terminal has had locale-related issues before (not starting
reliably in non-UTF8 locales) so this might be something similar?
