Bug#803779: gnome-shell: Screen remains on background for minutes after logging in

Package: gnome-shell
Version: 3.18.1-1
Severity: important
Dear Maintainer,
Since about a week (I dist-upgrade testing daily), I see a strange effect after
logging in from gdm3: (note: it may mean that gdm3 is the package I should be
filing the bug for, but I don't know how to determine that, so trying
gnome-shell here): after entering my password, the screen shows just the gdm3
background color for minutes (cursor in the center) and then the normal
gnome-shell shows up. If I press ESC while it's in this state, I directly get
the normal gnome-shell starting up.
* What led up to the situation?
I upgraded some packages as I do daily. I have no idea which upgrade it caused,
but if you like, I can look at which packages were upgraded at which day (but
this should be in sync with what went into testing). OK, why not do that right
now... I *think* this is the update that caused it, but it may also be one day
earlier:

Log complete.
Later I tried to install unstable's gnome-shell, but that didn't help. I
thought it did, but apparently this background-hanging-thing sometimes doesn't
occur if you first logout again and then login.
To be exact, this is the action I tried:
[UPGRADE] gir1.2-mutter-3.0:amd64 3.18.0-1+b1 -> 3.18.1-1
[UPGRADE] gnome-shell:amd64 3.18.0-1 -> 3.18.1-1
[UPGRADE] gnome-shell-common:amd64 3.18.0-1 -> 3.18.1-1
[UPGRADE] libmutter0g:amd64 3.18.0-1+b1 -> 3.18.1-1
[UPGRADE] mutter:amd64 3.18.0-1+b1 -> 3.18.1-1
[UPGRADE] mutter-common:amd64 3.18.0-1 -> 3.18.1-1
and even
[UPGRADE] gnome-session:amd64 3.18.0-1 -> 3.18.1.2-1
[UPGRADE] gnome-session-bin:amd64 3.18.0-1+b1 -> 3.18.1.2-1
[UPGRADE] gnome-session-common:amd64 3.18.0-1 -> 3.18.1.2-1
to no avail.
* What exactly did you do (or not do) that was effective (or
ineffective)?
* What was the outcome of this action?
Well, pressing ESC during that background screen helps, but it's very annoying
that I have to do that all the time (or wait out the minutes).
* What outcome did you expect instead?
I expected that (as before the upgrade) gnome-shell to start immediately.
If there is anything I can do to test or get more information, please do let me
know.
