gnome-dvb-daemon packaging updates

Hello everybody, 

I tried to send this email to pochu a few month ago (24/07/2015), but got no answer... Apparently it got lost and as I was pretty busy since (I moved, got married...), I didn't have time to try again.


As a beginner in packaging, I tried to fix the various things that were problematic to build the latest version of gnome-dvb-daemon. As you will see reading the original message (see below), I'm able to build and run gnome-dvb-daemon, but I get errors when using it. Here is the patch I did, feel free to include it to the packaging repo, and modify it.

Yes I'm still interested, I just got pretty busy last week so I didn't write to you as planned, sorry.


The current status is that the package builds properly, and now properly starts (I corrected a few things in separated patches included in the packaging).

It still needs to be checked for the packaging style (I rewrote debian/rules to port to pybuild as latest gnome-dvb-daemon was ported to python3, but I'm not an expert (yet) so you probably will need to check it)

There is still some lintian errors/warnings (I fixed some but not all).


Regarding the program itself, it runs properly, except that it couldn't detect required dvb-apps properly (it indicates it's missing whereas it is installed). Unfortunately, I've not enough knowledge in python to properly debug it, but I have multiple DVB-T USB dongles at home and I'm ready to share one of mines or even buy one to one people of the team if he/she could work on fixing this.


Don't hesitate to mail me for additional details, I documented my changes in debian/changelog and in relevant patches.

The attached patch was build against the team's packaging tree at 5th june state.

I was wondering if you're still interested in updating gnome-dvb-daemon, and
what the current status is. Can you send a debdiff with your latest changes, and
a summary of what's still missing? I saw some messages in irc about problems
with Python modules or something. Are those still an issue?
