A few days later, its RSS is down but its VSZ is up (and my system is using
11.2GB of swap):

Debian-+ 7973 0.0 13.6 10954276 4472144 tty7 Sl+ Oct24 5:16 /usr/lib/gnome-settings-daemon/gnome-settings-daemon

If it's any help, gnome-shell is exhibiting the same behaviour:

Debian-+ 7912 41.2 7.6 4173604 2527448 tty7 Sl+ Oct24 4059:37 gnome-shell --mode=gdm --wayland --display-server

Stephen
