Current unstable is a few minor releases further on; please could you
re-test this?

This seems to work OK for me in GNOME Shell 3.20 from experimental
(tested with vim-gtk and firefox-esr). If you're a sufficiently early
adopter to be using Wayland at all, are you able to re-test in versions
from experimental?
