Sometimes we do, sometimes we don't.  I bet you can find many cases of 
"old unmaintained stuff" e.g. in our TeX codebase.

What I think is appropriate to address is old, unmaintained and *broken* 
stuff.  Are python wrappers for GTK+ 2.x _broken_?

If the real issue here is that GNOME team no longer find the package 
relevant, then perhaps instead of removing pass over maintenance to 
others who do?
