Bug#832444: gdk-pixbuf: Needs 11500 MB to build

Package: src:gdk-pixbuf
Version: 2.34.0-1
Dear maintainer:
While checking for "dpkg-buildpackage -A" I noticed that this package
needs more than 11500 MB of memory to build, but only 1000 MB on average.
(This suggests that the memory is only required for the linking stage).
Would be possible to reduce this, please?
There are more than 3200 source packages generating both "Arch: all" and
"Arch: any" packages, and this one is currently the *third* package
which needs more memory to build (followed closely by maxima and axiom,
but those are an anomaly too).
I ask because I noticed a similar problem in "mame", and it has been
fixed recently:
mame (0.174-1) unstable; urgency=medium
[...]
- reduce memory required by ld on all archs (Ubuntu)
which suggests this is something that we can actually fix.
Thanks.
