Package: gnome-power-manager
Version: 3.14.1-1
Followup-For: Bug #719268
Hi!
My self-described-incompetent friend informed me of this exact issue
after an upgrade from wheezy to jessie recently. It turns out my
"incompetent" friend was more capable than me at figuring out a
workaround:

Enlightened, I thought others could be interested in the Knowledge.
It turns out that you can "Alt-right-click" on the top menu to add
applets, including a battery status applet.
A.
PS: This seems to be a regression from wheezy to jessie. There is also
no obvious way of configuring the actions on power issues. I am sure,
however, that my brilliant friend will be able to tell us if there's a
way to fix that as well. My friend encourages you to try to figure it
out first. :)
