I think you're right. I made a clean install into my USB drive, boot on the same machine, tried to reproduce but failed. Maybe I did something wrong in my Debian.
But custom kernel reason can be excluded. I boot into my backup original Debian kernel and it's still happen.

Here is some more details. I don't get any python backtrace, just a segmentation fault line (I deleted some duplicate line).
