nope, i did not have that installed.  installing it resolves the
problem.

I had no idea how to find that this was the necessary component.  I did
look into whether i had the relevant Recommends: for cheese itself, but
i didn't do (and don't know how to easily do) a recursive search for all
dependency Recommends :/

Even if i'd managed to come up with such a list, i'm not sure i would
have been able to identify libgdk-pixbuf2.0-bin as the needed package :(

You can feel free to dispose of this ticket however you like.  If
there's a way that you can make it easier to find this instead of
filing a new bug, that'd be great!
