Package: gnome-session
Version: 3.22.3-1
Severity: normal

Dear Maintainer,

*** Reporter, please consider answering these questions, where appropriate ***

   * What led up to the situation?
I updated from Jessie to Stretch. I did a clean install of Stretch, using entire hard drive for the install.
   * What exactly did you do (or not do) that was effective (or
     ineffective)?
I tried setting umask at ~/.profile (which works on Jessie) and as a troubleshooting experiment I tried setting umask at /etc/login.defs.
Gnome does not respect the umask setting at either of these locations in Stretch. It gives all files rw-r--r-- regardless of setting.
Which means that every file I create is readable by everyone.

   * What was the outcome of this action?
setting umask at ~/.profile has no effect on the umask used by gnome-session
   * What outcome did you expect instead?
In Debian Jessie, files that are created in a gnome session use the umask that is set at ~/.profile. I want Stretch to do this too.
